Effectiveness of Pentoxifylline Therapy for Management of Oral Submucous Fibrosis

Introduction: Oral submucous fibrosis is a chronic oral disease characterized by progressive buildup of constricting collagen bands in the cheeks and adjacent structures mouth due to chewing areca nut. This can severely restrict opening tongue movement causing pain burning sensation mouth.
 Aims: study evaluates efficacy pentoxifylline management fibrosis.
 Methods: A hospital-based study, conducted dental outpatient department Nepalgunj Medical College from October 2019 September 2020. Forty-nine patients who were diagnosed histopathologically with included. The divided into two groups. In group A, given, 200 mg thrice daily for first 30 days, then dose hiked 400 more months. Group B received treatment multi-vitamin capsules (B-complex one capsule before sleep daily) three All followed up six months assessed maximum inter-incisor opening, on sensation.
 Results: There was no statistical difference at baseline follow up. significantly compared second which persisted till third (p <0.05). Pain reduced 2nd 3rd Few had nausea, dyspepsia vomiting during resolved within few days without need cessation drug.
 Conclusion: Pentoxifylline bring about significant clinical improvements symptoms like sensation, thereby improving quality life affected individuals.
